One of the founding principles of Alumbo! is that we are an interactive medium, not a broadcast one. Unlike a traditional publisher (and the majority of websites out there), we don't tell consumers what they can and can't read; and, we don't prevent authors from reaching their audience because their material is not mainstream enough. Alumbo.com is a platform that allows authors and readers to interact directly and share ideas, expertise and opinions.

Alumbo! allows individuals to connect with experts, and peers to connect with peers. Most of the material on the site is created by our community of participants, our Contributors and Community Leaders. We encourage dialog and discourse, as well as allow people to transact business.

Our goal is to recreate the town marketplace of the pre-industrial age, where people would meet with each other, exchange news and ideas, buy and sell stuff directly, and in general be a community. By bringing producers and consumers into direct contact, we believe both groups are better served.

And, unlike many online publishers that cater to multinational advertisers working with large ad agencies, Alumbo.com is designed to help small and medium sized businesses and practitioners. Our self-serve advertising programs let business people and professionals develop their online campaigns quickly, easily and economically.
