Emmanuel Huchet Founder's Welcome Message

Hello, and welcome to Alumbo! I truly hope you enjoy your visit here.

My name is Emmanuel Huchet (*), and I created Alumbo.com for a very simple reason. There are literally millions of people out there, perhaps you included, who have a strong desire to improve themselves, their communities, and the planet. These are people who try to live their lives by what they value:

  • Altruism, a sense of community, and service to others
  • Self-actualization focused on psychological and spiritual growth
  • Ecological sustainability
  • Holistic health and alternative/complementary medicine
  • A love of foreigners and the exotic
  • Gender and social equality
Sociologists call them Cultural Creatives (click the link to learn more about this term). Alumbo.com was created to offer information and tools to help so-called Cultural Creatives "live the best life they can". Basically, the website is an online meeting place to explore and share ways to enrich your body, mind and spirit, and to meet other people with the same value systems.

We do this in three main ways:

  1. First, Alumbo.com is a portal site that brings together editorial material (articles, opinion pieces, commentary) as well as links to relevant and useful websites, services, products, and online discussion groups. All our content is organized by topic area, or "community", so you can quickly find material and other people who share your passion. Instead of hunting all over the generic portal sites or continuously searching for relevant sites, you can make Alumbo your "homebase" and let us do the surfing and organizing for you.

  2. Second, Alumbo.com offers a self-publishing platform for authors who have expertise and a passion for Culturally Creative ways of living. If you have something to say, you are invited to use Alumbo.com as an easy way to reach a receptive audience and to foster dialog. You simply type your submission into your web browser, or you can copy-and-paste articles you've previously written. You don't need to know anything about HTML or download any software to get published on the web!

  3. Third, we help merchants and service providers who offer products and services in related areas (eg: personal coaches, holistic healers, eco-tours, etc.) to connect with potential customers and clients. Alumbo.com offers free and low-cost advertising options for vendors and professionals to expose their message to a highly targeted group who desire their offerings.
We are an egalitarian community -- we encourage all our members (readers, authors, publishers, small business people, practitioners and professionals) to interact and learn from one another. This is what makes Alumbo.com different from most of what you see on the web these days, and different from other types of media. We believe in the power of interaction and dialog. We don't pretend to have all the answers; we don't believe there is one right path that works for everyone, or that truth is to be learned only from a select group of "experts". We would rather discover and explore these truths together, as a community.

Yours in peace,
Emmanuel Huchet
