Suzanne: Virtual Coaching Session #3 - her final sessionSuzanne learns a tool to support the major steps she is taking.A regular column by Sarah Pond, Feb 08, 2004
Suzanne began this session very enthusiastic about some major shifts she was achieving in her life. She had purchased and read a book called “Excuse me, your life is waiting" by Lynn Grabhorn and explored more about the principles and practice of Abundance. Here is what Suzanne had to say: “Abundance and prosperity all of a sudden began to appear in my life almost from the very day I opened my world to the possibility. The moment I set myself at a new level of abundance, I became a magnet for more money, more support, more opportunities, everything! I almost can’t believe it, except it’s really happening”. I celebrated with Suzanne and acknowledged the great strides she is making toward her best life. I asked her to list precisely the actions and attitudes that have brought about this change in her life. I suggested that she title her list “What Works” and to be as specific as possible. After she had crafted her list of “What Works”, she sent it to me along with a note that said: “making my “What Works” list was very powerful for me. I saw that there are 6 or 7 things that I have done to transform my life. It was really interesting to write them down and to be specific about exactly what they are. Now I have this list that I can refer to whenever I lose my way or when I need a boost. Most of all, this list underscores what you have been telling me – that I already have all the wisdom and resources I need to have a great life – it’s inside me and it has been all along. I guess I just needed to tap into it.” Suzanne was very ready to make positive change in her life. She is also ready and willing to continue along her new path to success. There is yet another piece that I wanted to coach her on before we parted ways. From experience, I know that the first stages of life-transformation can be exhilarating and energizing. However, in order to maintain the new ways of thinking, acting and being – we need to implement a kind of back-up system. Otherwise, when energy gets low and life throws a curveball, we will likely abandon our new patterns in favour of our old “default” patterns, simply because they are more familiar.
The final tool I left with Suzanne is known as Building Reserves. Picture yourself running on several “batteries”. These batteries give you the “juice” to continue in the direction of achieving your goals. Naturally, your batteries gradually run low on their charge and eventually become drained. We all know the feeling of low batteries and drained energy! Luckily, your batteries (or Reserves) can be recharged. But you must attend to it consciously. You need to recognize what your reserves are, how they become drained, and what you can do to recharge them. Many clients come to me with their reserves so low that it is impossible for them to make any significant change. First they must Build their Reserves. I asked Suzanne what are her main reserves that support her and which reserves she wanted to build up. She listed: 1)Finance 2)Support 3)Self-care 4)Intimacy As the reserves that were low and that she needed to build. I reminded her about the power of conscious intent and asked her to have the clear intention of building up her reserves in these areas. She listed several actions that she could take over the week that would build up her self-care and intimacy reserves. Suzanne decided to upgrade our coaching sessions to a couple of months of 1-to-1 caoching by phone and email. I promised her that we would begin with addressing her financial reserves with 4 principles that increase financial success. All the best, Sarah Pond www.successandsatisfaction.com
