Getting OrganizedBy Ridding Ourselves Of ClutterA regular column by Clara B Freeman, Dec 04, 2007
What I'm truly contemplating, however, is not what can be seen on the outside, but, rather what most women, myself included, find preplexing areas of questioning clutter that gathers dust inside of our minds, leading us to question why we're feeling the need to rid ourselves of the negative impact this type of clutter invokes. It's feels sooo surreal, my sitting here at my workplace surrounded by seasons of 'stuff' that seem to have found a place of permanence. There's books, boxes, files, bulging with hastily written sheets of half finished works...the countless magazines strewn about blends into the plushness of the carpeting that once lay in bare elegance on my floor. I've let spring pass and winter emerge without a thought to the ritualistic 'spring cleaning' that all households abide by in order to end such an annoyance that comes when living within the confines of a cluttered lifestyle. I'd like nothing more than to stop and dive into the mess of disorder which has become my abode of late, however,I'm knowing that I cannot stop here. I must began to look inward at the insidious clutter as well. A very young woman with whom I had a conversation with in regards to our shared interest in books, said something that got me to thinking about what women allow into their psyche to cause them to lose sleep. This young lady said that she was in the process of reading 2 books because she had insomnia. At the end of our conversation and with gentle prodding, I found that even though this woman was young, beautiful and accomplished, she was unhappy with her career choice.
I've come to take note of other, more mature women who speak of their own discontent in many areas of their lives. Of course, I'm no psychiatrist, yet, I find that lending an ear in some cases afford these women to go on to make decisions to tackle their inner demons of clutter. My life is a clutter of what's being ignored on my own 'to do' list. I know where I've been slacking. I know what I have to do to rid myself of 'clutter'. Life offers up choices. I've made a choice to write, write, and write some more. Maybe then, My mind can rest and I can start to put all of this 'stuff' in its proper place...even if I have to discard stuff I've grown accustomed to.
