Accepting The Consquences For Ourselves

Summary:
Recent events occurring in and out of the news spotlight have caused me to reflect upon reasons we as a people do the things we do and more importantly, why it seems easier to place blame on someone;something other than ourselves...

In view of the hateful/derogratory remarks made by radio talk host Don Imus in referencing young African-American women in the game of basketball...

The insultingly mimic of the Asian communities in a long running audio tape by JB.& Elvis/talk radio jocks...

Paris Hilton placing blame on her publicist for her drinking with a suspended license after recent DUI issues...

I began to wonder, when will we start to take responsibility for our own actions? When will people wake up and realize that no one pried their mouths open to drink more than they should, or, to utter despicable and hate spewed sentences that causes hurtful and painful feeling, as well as places the person uttering such garbage in the catagory of 'racist'.

Recently, I had a couple of turns where I had to take stock of my actions in regards to how I conducted my work. In other words, my ethics came into play.

A new client was expecting work from me that for reasons that I'm still pondering, I completely failed to deliver! How did I omit to post at the deadline stipulated and risk losing a great opportunity?

I was fired because an issue of commitment had been broken. Needless to say, I could have heemed and hawed, placed blame on my computer malfunctioning, or, the cat had to spend the night at the Vets with me in attendance!

However, I did what one of integrity does. Ater realizing my blunder, I immediately dashed off a 600 word post, with an apology that ultimately agreed with my Client's, that I was to blame for my failure to make that deadline...

In any event, I was rehired after some consideration. I came away from the experience, thankful and vowing to take stock of my at home business by treating it with the upmost care and responsibility: The same as I do at my nursing duties...

I remember telling my children as they were coming into their teenage years, how they were always accountable for their actions. My words were "You are responsible for the consquence of your own actions."

They must have listened because through trial and yes, error, they have become productive and responsible adults who are accepting of the consquences of their making...

As adults, can't we all just learn the importance of this truth?
