Summary:
What does being successful means to you on a personal level? Are you one of those people who believe that , "you should leave well enough alone?" , or, do you wish for more out of life and career? There's hope for the hopelessness and feelings of inadaquacy one tends to feel when we are lacking in our performance capabilities.

A writer friend of mine recently emailed me with a question in her comparision of two individuals who starts out in their careers about the same time. Ultimately, only one of them becomes successful... Why?

Without hesitation, I responded with a question of my own. "What constitutes success?" I think that for many people, the comfort zone in their level of success plays a big part in how much they're willing to put themselves, 'out there', in a matter of speaking. What sane person would want to open themselves up to a microscopic view of criticism?

In the beginning of my writings, it was a very, very, long while ago. I literally, kept my work under lock and key. I felt honor bound to keep my ability to express via words, a secret... secrets leading to private and personal years of 'discontent' and inner 'turmoil.'

Looking back, I'm knowing that this was a way for me to avoid having my feelings trampled upon. I didn't want to get hurt by what someone else might say in regards to my writing. However, as years passed, the knawing began to eat away at my insides, disturbing my sleep, hounding me to react...that discomfort of avoidance began to take center stage, forcing me to comply. It was my muse. It was telling me to feed the hunger inside of myself.

Slowly as time passed, I began to connect with others who felt as I did. Fellow readers, writers, speakers, contributors, who needed to express themselves and allow the world to 'hear' what they felt needed to be said.

Norman Vincent Peale, the late renowned minister, as well as a motivator for spiritual guidance to success, offered his take on four things that a person must consider to become successful:

Work: One cannot become a procrastinator for life; at some point, the work must begin the process.

Prayer: We attain nothing in life without prayer to a power higher than ourselves. It is faith that sustains in the face of trials and tribulations.

Think: We have been gifted with brillance of thought. We are able to think/discern/become decisive in our decision making.

Believe: Finally, it is our belief that when we envision 'positives' in our lives, then we can achieve those things upon which we have focused, knowing that we can attain our goals; perhaps not at the same pace, or, even in the same capacity as another's level of success.

It is; An individual's journey toward achieving a sense of accomplishment that in the end becomes his/her "success."
