A regular column by dreads, Jan 24, 2007          Not rated (click to add your own rating)

Summary:
So often, when we're faced with Life's challenges in regards to change, we become fearful. We began to question and second guess our decision making capabilities. There are ways to combat the paralysis and inaction that innate fear, oftentime causes..

Being faced with divorce filled with me certain dread and an emotional fear. I had been married for well over 20 years. Being in a relationship with my ex was all I'd known since my 20's. How would I survive this? How could I possibly cope out there in the jungles of a rapidly changing world; all on my own?

Sound familiar? I'm sure many women have found and many continue to find themselves faced with a situation that involves change. Change, although good, can become the catalyst for our fears. We are simply afraid of the unknown. What's behind door number Two? Will it seek to help us, or, harm us? The first lesson to regaining our self-confidence and picking up the entrails that forms our self-esteem, is to face the fears of doubt head on. We can do this by noting the words of Franklin D. In order to start life anew,in anticipation of what's to come; One must learn to doubt the very existence of fear and yield it powerless over your life.

When I was faced with having to start the second phase of life as a single woman, I, naturally became afraid...for a long moment in time. Then, I began to take action. By realizing and coming to terms with the truth; the reality that the life I'd known was over and it was time to make a new life for myself...It took courage, faith, friends, the love of family and action on my part to reclaim my power as a woman of substance, with capability and insight to survive...

Adversities, Transitions, Change. These things are what life's all about. We are merely human being surviving in a spiritual realm. We're going to encounter, sometimes, life altering situations. We're going to become afraid of what's beyond... The key to conquering our fears comes with the knowing that fear isn't real. We can't touch it. It hasn't happened and it can't hurt us, unless we allow it to...
