Words That Inspire - STRETCHA monthly quick shot to motivate you, in less than 45 seconds, from Julie Cohen CoachingA regular column by Julie Cohen, Oct 09, 2005
Quantify your STRETCH. Dictionary*says: To extend, to reach out; a continuous period of time; a walk to relieve fatigue. What it REALLY means: Thinking, doing or going beyond self-imposed limitations, or limitations set by others. Seeing, imagining, acting or creating in new ways that enhance and expand your work and life. Why it MATTERS? STRETCHing takes you out of your comfort zone and leads to growth. STRETCHing eliminates boredom and revitalizes creativity. Like a physical STRETCH, the discomfort leads to greater movement, flexibility and reach. STRETCH in Action: Rebecca has been dissatisfied with her marketing job for over 15 months. She complains to her friends and continues with the status quo. As she has felt fearful of change, hesitant to discuss her concerns with others and professionally stagnant, her STRETCH includes 1) speaking with her boss to make her aware of ways to enhance the office environment, 2) seeking out and designing more creative projects with her colleagues and 3) updating her resume, researching alternative career opportunities and networking with potential employers. My STRETCH is to introduce 100 people to the power of coaching. I will provide one complimentary coaching session to anyone interested in achieving greater career satisfaction. If you would like to experience how coaching can support you, please contact me to set up your session.
Questions that INSPIRE: o What project are you currently working on that could benefit from a STRETCH? What 'status quo' would you like to STRETCH? o Quantify your STRETCH. o What might be the impact of the STRETCH? o Who or what prevents you from STRETCHing? Who or what supports your STRETCHing? o How can you incorporate a STRETCH in to your daily routine? I would love to hear your answers and comments. Take 45 seconds to reply to these questions at Julie@juliecohencoaching.com. I will keep all responses confidential and reply directly to you.
