Boxing

Summary:
"Let’s get ready to rumble”, Golden Boy Promotions Inc. just recently added British boxing star Rick Hatton, “The Hit man”, to its hot roster this past Thursday for an alleged three fight contract, although the terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed and his first fight is yet to be announced.

The Junior Welterweight’s contract with HBO expired last year and the champion decided to join superstars Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley in the industry’s most popular promoter after having a first-rate experience with Golden Boy Corporation back in December of this past year; when the firm promoted Hatton’s fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hatton had a few other companies in mind including his ex-promoter Artie Pelullo, but after carefully evaluating the possibilities he determined to stay put with Golden Boy. Hatton is also owner of his own promotional company, Punch Promotions, which will also partner with Golden Boy. Both parties are looking forward to an excellent outcome from their association. De la Hoya’s company has rapidly become one of the boxing leading promoters in a short time period and has earned a lot of respect. Among its steady and regular fighters are: Winky Wright and Marco Antonio Barrera. The founding of the company made De la Hoya the first Hispanic in history to own a national boxing promotional firm and one of just a few to take on promotional responsibilities while still active. In fact if Hatton had not signed with Golden Boy, he and De la Hoya may have ran into a mingle amongst themselves. Hatton’s record throughout his ten year career include a total of 44 fights in which he has won 43 and of those 43, 32 wins were by knockout. No wonder he is considered one of the most popular boxers. What also makes him unique is the fact that he is famous on both sides of the Atlantic. In June of 2005 he was awarded with the World Junior Welterweight Championship when he fought against Kostya Tszyu and later that same year he combined belts by knocking out Carlos Maussa. From there Hatton climbed up to welterweight and won a belt against Luis Collazo just before falling back to 140 pounds and reclaiming one of his earlier titles with an irregular conclusion against Juan Urango. Hatton pursued that victory with another knockout against Jose Luis Castillo in June 2007, an event which led to his fight against Mayweather Jr., where he lost in the 10th round by knockout. The Hitman is scheduled to be back in the ring by May 24th in his native town of Manchester. It is probable he will fight against Juan Lazcano, who is a Golden Boy fighter as well from El Paso, Texas. It is unclear as to whether or not the event will be televised in the United States; despite the fact that HBO is closely related to Golden Boy; it seems that they have very little interest in the fight especially if it falls during Memorial weekend, which will not bring much attention to viewers.
