The global warming debate is present in our news and media but whether or not it has something to do with planet-traveling aliens may be something for the Sci-Fi Channel.

You have decided to purchase a new automobile. So what is it going to be? No, we are not discussing the make and model. We are discussing whether or not it will be a hybrid. Little decisions such as these are part of a growing awareness about global warming. The repercussions of over using fossil fuels has affected our daily lives and is bringing the point home.

Over the past century, with out a doubt, global temperatures have risen. While the rise in temperature has been only a degree or so, the concern is whether the Earth's temperatures will continue to rise and what impact that will have on the environment. The controversy about the warming of the earth is a result of conflicting evidence.

The fact that global warming also occurred in the prehistoric era is a scientific point. Some think a large meteor hitting the planet caused an big change in the earth's temperature. Is that what killed the dinosaurs? Science cannot prove this conclusively yet. The political and industrial lobbies further complicate conversations about global warming. The contention of these groups is that, we currently do not know enough about the effects of global warming to limit industrial emissions.

As with any environmental issue, or any issue period, there will always be three sides. The people arguing for, the people arguing against and the middle ground in which most of us fall. We do have some facts about global warming and the destruction of our environment. We know that we must learn to conserve energy and that polluting our planet is affecting our lives and health. Perhaps one day soon there will be definitive answers on the global warming issue. Until that point, we must stay abreast of current studies and information and continue to do our part.
