Want to make a grown man cry? All it takes is a poorly aimed softball or a close encounter with a foot. In fact, any kind of blow to the groin can bring even the toughest of tough guys to his knees. The pain is indescribable. Fortunately, it is also short-lived. It usually goes away in just a couple of minutes. But sometimes the testicles hurt without any apparent provocation. Perhaps the most serious cause of testicular pain is torsion. Torsion hurts so badly, that anyone who has it will head straight for an emergency room. And that is precisely what you should do. Less serious but more common than torsion is epididymitis. When you have his condition, the testicle may appears swollen and feel tender. Sometimes testicular pain is referred, meaning the problem lies elsewhere in your body. For example, a kidney stone or a pinched nerve in your lower back may cause your testicles to hurt. Here are some tips that you can consider to adopt for fast relief.

1. Consider Acupuncture

The thought of needles in the groin probably isn’t very appealing. But acupuncture has proven to be very successful in treating testicular pain. Acupuncture reduces the stagnation that is causing your pain. To locate a qualified acupuncturist in your area, contact the physician referral service of your local hospital.

2. Be Open To Antibiotics

If you do have an infection such as epididymitis, you will need to take antibiotics to clear it up. Tetracycline is the usual prescription.

3. For An Injury, Choose Ice

If your testicles take a serious blow, apply ice immediately. Put some cubes in plastic wrap or a sandwich bag and close it up with a rubber hand. Then wrap the pack in a towel or a washcloth. Apply the ice in cycles of 15 minutes on and 10 minutes off. If the pain doesn’t go away in a couple of hours or if it intensifies, get to your doctor without delay. You may have internal bleeding.

4. Rest Up

Do not do anything too vigorous or jarring. You want to prevent the scrotum, the “bag” that holds the testicles, from hitting against your thighs when you move around.

5. Avoid Aspirin

Aspirin is a very potent blood thinner. It would cause problems if you would need to have some sort of surgery done. If you want to take a pain reliever, choose ibuprofen instead.

6. Add Some Lift

You can relieve your pain somewhat by elevating your scrotum. It is recommended to use a towel to prop up the testicles while you are sitting down.

7. Keep Them In Suspension

A device called a scrotal suspensory can immobilize the testicles when you are on the go. It is similar to an athletic supporter, but not as tight. An athletic supporter creates pressure that will make your pain even worse. You can purchase a scrotal suspensory in a drugstore or medical supply store.
