The Alumbo name

The Alumbo name The Alumbo name

OK, quick multiple-choice quiz: Where does the name Alumbo come from?

  1. an ancient African expression that means "I'm enlightened!", similar to the exclamation "Eureka!"
  2. the Roman name for a tributary of the Tiber river that was a pilgrimage destination for early Christian baptisms
  3. an alternative medicine term referring to the perfect balance and harmony between all of our mind-body systems
  4. the name of a Polynesian sun god
Answer: None of the above.

Alumbo is actually a coined word, a derivation of "Nelumbo", the botanical name for the lotus flower, which we've represented in our logo. As far as we know it doesn't have any special meaning in any language. We just liked the way it sounds, how it evokes a call to action, its "earthy" feel, its easy pronounciation and spelling, and so on. We feel it captures the essence of the company's values and mission — to live life purposefully, with passion, awareness and balance, and to help others connect with who they truly are.
